Please join us for the first Myrtle Beach Rally Weekend! Our headquarters for this event will be the oceanfront Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort located in the great Kingston Plantation area of Myrtle Beach. As indicated on the attached registration form, we have reserved a block of 25 rooms at a special rate. We are limited to a total of 50 people for the weekend and expect reservations to go fast.
Our main event for the weekend is a fun Gimmick Rally. For those of you not familiar with that term, a Gimmick Rally is intended to be a low key, fun event suitable for anyone regardless of previous rally experience. The event is not timed and does not involve the use of stop watches. You will be provided a set of “turn-by-turn” driving directions and as list of questions pertaining to the route. Each of the questions will refer to a specific site or object to be found along the route. You will be awarded points for each question answered correctly. At the end of the rally, you will return to our hotel where you will hand in your answer sheet to the Rally Committee. The Committee will then ask you to answer one additional question that will be used as a tie breaker. The car with the highest point total wins. Trophies will be awarded that evening at dinner to the First, Second, and Third Place winners.
Our weekend starts at 12:00 noon on Saturday with hotel registration (assuming, of course, that all the rooms have been cleaned and are ready by then). Everyone is free to enjoy a quick lunch on their own (there are many restaurant choices close by).
On Saturday by 1:30 pm, all rally participants need to have their cars at the starting area in the hotel parking lot. At that time, our Rally Committee will provide you with a set of rally instructions, show you a map of the route and answer any questions you might have about the event. All cars will line up behind the starting line on a first-come basis. The first car will leave the start line at 2:00pm with subsequent cars leaving on 3 minute intervals. The rally route should take about 1 ½ hours to complete. The route will end back at the hotel where you will turn in your completed answer sheet to the Rally Committee and answer the final tie breaker question.
On Saturday evening, we will gather for a social hour (cash bar) at 6:30 pm in the hotel bar followed by the Rally Awards Dinner at 7:30 pm in the hotel’s conference center.
On Sunday morning, we will check out of the hotel and meet in the hotel parking lot by 10:30 am for the short drive to the Gospel Brunch at the Myrtle Beach House of Blues. The famous HOB Gospel Brunch features live music from the local Gospel trio “Glory” and an amazing buffet with a huge assortment of breakfast and lunch items. We’ll have tables reserved for our entire group and it should be a great time. Our Rally Weekend will officially end at 12:30 pm that afternoon at which point we’ll all head for home (although some may decide to stay on until the Gospel Brunch closes at 2:00!).
A summary of the weekend schedule is provided below:
Saturday November 8:
12:00 pm – Hotel check-in (assuming all rooms are cleaned and ready)
1:30 pm – All cars gather in hotel parking lot for rally instructions
2:00 pm – Rally start (cars will leave the start line on 3 minute intervals). The rally route should take about 1 ½ hours to complete.
5:15 pm – All completed rally answer sheets must be turned in to the Rally Committee
6:30 pm – Social Hour in the Hilton bar
7:30 pm – Awards Dinner in the Hilton Conference Center
Sunday November 9:
10:00 am – Hotel Checkout
10:30 am – Meet in Hotel parking lot for short drive to House of Blues
10:45 am – House of Blues Gospel Brunch
12:30 pm – Rally Weekend ends and everyone heads for home
The registration fee is $65 per person and includes the Gimmick Rally entrance fee, the Saturday night Awards Dinner (including tax and gratuity), and the Sunday morning Gospel Brunch (also including tax and gratuity). Rooms at the Hilton are not included and should be made directly by calling 843-449-5000. A block of 25 rooms at a special rate of $69 (plus tax) is reserved under the name Myrtle Beach Porsche Owners.
Registration forms must be received by October 17th. Hotel room reservations must be made by October 17th as well. If you received this document by email, a registration form is included in that same email. Otherwise, the registration form can be downloaded from the Palmetto Region PCA website.
